Principal, Senior Mechanical Engineer
Jonah Allaben is an expert at delivering energy-efficient designs for building infrastructure. He works closely with Goldman Copeland’s Energy Services Department to convert the findings of energy studies into energy-saving mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) solutions. He leads projects through design and implementation of multi-million-dollar, capital improvement initiatives, generating both energy and financial savings for some of the largest property owners in the tri-state area.
With more than 18 years of experience in managing and designing complex MEP projects, Jonah manages the design of central HVAC system upgrades, electrical infrastructure improvements, and other energy-saving capital projects from inception to completion. His experience has focused on work for healthcare institutions, universities, transit authorities, and other commercial and cultural clients. His expertise includes the implementation of utility incentive programs for such settings.
Career highlights
Jonah Allaben has led designs for healthcare, cultural, and commercial institutions in the Tri-State region with a specialty in upgrading existing MEP infrastructure. He has experience with numerous project delivery methods including utility-funded energy incentive programs, design-build, an on-call agreements. Jonah is accustomed to the role of prime consultant and is traditionally a program lead for multidisciplinary design efforts. His background in energy analysis and sustainable design provides a basis or applying energy-efficient design principles throughout the project cycle.
Jonah serves as Goldman Copeland’s Program Manager for the Engineered Solutions Program offered through PSE&G, New Jersey Natural Gas, and other New Jersey utilities. The multi-year initiatives fund the installation of energy efficiency measures for healthcare institutions, higher education campuses, municipalities, and other facility types in New Jersey. Driven by utility-backed incentives, Goldman Copeland provides investment grade audits, engineering designs, and construction phase services under Jonah’s leadership to implement projects over the full project cycle. He has delivered chiller replacements, pump optimizations, and air handling unit upgrades for multiple hospitals in the Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJBarnabas Health networks. Jonah has served numerous other institutions including Saint Peter’s University Hospital, Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Seton Hall University.
Jonah has delivered engineering solutions across a wide range of clients and facility types in New York City. His management and design experience includes custom air handling units, condensing boiler plants, and chiller replacements for cultural institutions, office towers, sanitation facilities, and universities. Jonah leads a team of engineers committed to delivering custom MEP designs for occupied buildings with aged infrastructure. Goldman Copeland’s Energy Services Department regularly coordinates with Jonah to present electrification studies to NYC building owners interested in Local Law 97 compliance and low-carbon HVAC systems. Columbia University, New York Botanical Garden, National Grid, and Rockefeller Group represent a cross-section of the institutions that Jonah and Goldman Copeland are privileged to serve.
