As Lead Designer, Goldman Copeland (GOCO) teamed with Lead Contractor Forte Construction Corp. on this Design-Build project serving the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). The MTA sought to replace 19 elevators located at 8 different subway stations throughout the boroughs of Manhattan and Queens with new ADA compliant elevators.

As Lead Designer of Record, GOCO performed Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Plumbing, Fire Suppression, and Communications design and Construction Administration services in house. Furthermore, GOCO oversaw a design team comprised of the following subconsultants: BOCA Group (Vertical Transportation Specialist), Thornton Tomasetti (Structural Engineer), Page Ayres Cowley Architecture, and Jablonski Building Conservation. The stations—which include some of the most iconic and heavily trafficked in the country—remained open to the public and fully functional at all times. The project finished ahead of schedule with all elevators in operation in Spring of 2026. The 19 upgraded elevators are located at the following eight stations:

  • Times Square – 42nd St. Station (2 elevators)
  • 14th St. – 8th Ave. Station (2 elevators)
  • 14th St. – Union Square Station (4 elevators)
  • West 4th St. – Washington Square Station (3 elevators)
  • Lexington Ave. – 53rd St. Station (1 elevator)
  • 175th St. Station (2 elevators)
  • Jackson Heights – Roosevelt Ave / 74th St Station (2 elevators)
  • 125th St. Station (3 elevators)
