- General Feasibility Studies
GCA has completed feasibility studies to assist customers in making more informed energy decisions at their facilities, both independently and through NYSERDA s Flextech program. Our services have included equipment replacement or upgrade recommendations, comprehensive energy analysis on campus-type settings, energy-related design assistance through computer assisted building modeling, and engineering support and other analysis requested by the customer and approved by NYSERDA.Our expertise includes detailed technical support, preparing or helping prepare bid documents, review of energy audits, design assistance and verification that equipment and installations are as specified, and analysis and design of building MEP systems, both conventional and unconventional.
- LEED Certification Support
In recent years, LEED certification has become increasingly important as both a green benchmarking tool and a valuable marketing commodity. GCA is working with large property managers to draft and submit LEED documentation for MEP-related credits for LEED-NC, LEED-CI as well as LEED-EB: O&M. GCA has several LEED APs on staff, including both principals.
- Energy Star Portfolio Manager Benchmarking
GCA has extensive experience analyzing utility usage through Energy Star's Portfolio Manager. GCA will collect and input current utility information in this online tool which generates a normalized score which can be compared against similar buildings. This service can be used as a basis for further energy analysis as well as to qualify for Energy Star or LEED designations.
- Peak-Load Reduction Strategies
GCA will provide detail on peak demand impacts of study recommendations. We understand that electric grid reliability issues and availability of demand response or demand reduction initiatives in the Con Edison electric service territory during summer peak periods is especially critical and that particular focus should be paid to calculating this impact in addition to the customer billing impact. Our analysis will show how a proposed measure coincides with or impacts the system electric summer peak. Both short term load management and long term permanent load reduction opportunities may be investigated.
- Data Center Assessments
GCA will assess energy efficiency and carbon reduction potential of data center support systems and IT equipment. Strategies include: cooling/IT equipment replacement or upgrade recommendations, server virtualization, redundancy optimization, temperature set point investigations, etc. GCA s HVAC design experience in data centers provides the expertise and experience to improve the efficiency of support systems (i.e. cooling and UPS systems) and IT equipment (i.e. server replacement, virtualization, application management). Analysis focuses on defining and reducing energy cost per unit of productive data throughput.
