This Himalayan Art Musuem is housed in the former Barney’s Department store on West 17th Street – a consolidation of three existing tenement row houses and an adjacent six-story building.
The renovation included upgrading and replacing the fire alarm, sprinkler and security systems, as well as some of the plumbing. About 90% of the electrical wiring had to be replaced.
In addition to 25,000 SF of exhibition space, the museum has a library and an auditorium. All HVAC systems were replaced to maintain temperature and humidity levels consistent with museum standards for artwork preservation.
