Playwrights Horizons Theater

Playwrights Horizons is a writer’s theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists, and to the production of their new work.

This new state-of-the-art, five-story building houses the 198-seat Mainstage Theater and the 96-seat Studio Theater, which can be expanded to seat 128. Rehearsal rooms, a costume shop and administrative, artistic and production offices were also part of our work on this facility.

The HVAC design incorporates sound attenuation to meet the necessary acoustical requirements. A unique feature of this building is the under-floor air distribution system in the Mainstage Theater. Playwrights Horizons is the first major New York City Theater with this draft-free, exceptionally quiet design.
