The Albert Einstein College of Medicine is a major biomedical and clinical research facility ranked among the top medical schools in the U.S.

We worked on engineering planning, design and construction services for the following projects:

Kennedy Building:
We replaced existing low-pressure, single stage steam absorption chillers and cooling towers with new high-pressure, two stage steam absorption units, and replaced counter flow cooling towers with variable speed cross flow cooling towers on the roof.  The project included conversion of constant volume chilled water flow to variable flow system with new coil control valves and variable speed drives on the pumps. We upgraded existing controls to programmable electronics for energy optimization.

Ullmann Building:
We designed a new exhaust fan system to serve laboratory fume hoods located on the roof, which now allows for a new 100% outdoor air handling unit. This project consisted of a phased construction approach to replace 3 existing AHUs serving laboratories and vivarium spaces. The facility will be upgraded with variable flow controls and humidification systems.

We also undertook an emergency generator power study to analyze connected load and and a potential generator upgrade. The study was able to determine that the facility had enough spare power with diversity and minor re-circuiting of some larger loads.

Ven Etten Building:
This project began with a laboratory renovation master plan. First, we initiated a study to determine the most reliable and economical option for introducing a new rooftop, 100% outdoor air system for 90,000 square feet of new space designated for laboratory use. The project design and construction is being performed in phases. The new rooftop AHUs incorporate air to air heat exchangers and will be capable of providing outdoor air to 4 floors of office/educational space below the laboratories. The project also includes the renovation of two floors for a new Children’s Rehabilitation Center.

Attic Building:
We designed and planned a new gas heating system.
